Las Vegas: What is a resort fee?

A resort fee (also called a facility fee, a destination fee, an amenity fee, or a resort charge) is a separate fee that a guest must pay to receive the amenities that the Las Vegas resort offers. The fee is charged in addition to the room rate.

Although resort fees are not unique to just Las Vegas, many people believe they are. Nearly every single hotel in Vegas charges a resort fee and unfortunately it’s impossible to pay in advance. It must be paid directly to the hotel upon arrival.

Resort fees are usually a fixed rate that is paid per room, per night. And yes, it’s mandatory. Unfortunately you cannot earn points on the resort fee.

The resort fee is said to be used towards your amenities such as a fitness center, WiFi, pool area, spa, etc. More often than not, most hotels will also charge you to use the fitness center & spas, even though you paid a resort fee.
